Ommetje

To encourage people to walk more, we developed the Ommetje app on behalf of the Better Together Agency, in collaboration with Professor of Neuropsychology Erik Scherder. The focus of our walking app is on accessibility for everyone. Regardless of your walking speed or distance, anyone can participate. With the app, you not only receive useful insights into how your brain functions but also earn medals and challenges that provide continuous motivation. Furthermore, you can organize your own walking competitions with friends, family, or colleagues.

Extrinsic Motivation

In addition to intrinsic motivation, a healthy dose of discipline is also needed to take a daily walk. That's why the app includes motivating factors such as Erik Scherder's brain facts and the ability to earn medals. In addition to these rewards, the competitive element works very effectively as an extrinsic motivator. Users challenge each other and compete, leading to a significant increase in organic downloads and the number of walks taken. Today, the app is still widely used and makes a significant contribution to the health of many Dutch people.

Erik Scherder as an Authority

Another crucial factor for the success of the app was Professor of Neuropsychology Erik Scherder. He served as the face of the campaign. By giving him an active role in the campaign and prominently featuring him in the media, we were able to generate additional authority within the target audience. This added to the expertise already conveyed by the Hersenstichting.
